Kelowna, BC  ·  Software · Infrastructure · Hardware

One technology partner.
Every layer.

Most businesses juggle a web agency, an IT company, and a computer shop — and nobody owns the gaps between them. MDB Development is one Kelowna studio that designs the website, runs the infrastructure, and builds the machines. Scoped, built, and supported by the same person you talk to.

01  /  Practice

Three disciplines. One accountable studio.

Each practice stands on its own. Together they mean there is never a vendor to blame — the person who built your site also configured your network and specced your workstation.

01

Websites & web apps

Marketing sites, client portals, custom web applications, and the hosting, domains, DNS, SSL, and business email that keep them running. Designed and built in-house, deployed on infrastructure we manage.

  • Custom-designed websites & landing pages
  • Web applications & client-facing tools
  • Managed hosting, domains, DNS & SSL
  • Business email setup & administration
  • Google Business Profile & on-page SEO
  • Ongoing maintenance & content updates

Agency-quality work without the agency overhead · Quoted in writing, no surprises

02

IT & infrastructure

The systems your operations depend on — networks, storage, secure remote access, and the tooling around them. We don't just advise; we install, document, and hand it over in a state your team can actually run.

  • Business networks — UniFi, VLANs, Wi-Fi, firewalls
  • NAS & file platforms with least-privilege access
  • Secure remote access & VPN for staff and contractors
  • Server setup, hardening & monitoring
  • Process automation & scripting
  • Written handoff docs with every deployment

A fraction of a managed-IT contract · Pay for the work, not a retainer you don't use

03

Custom PCs & hardware

Workstations specced for the job — CAD, video, engineering, gaming — hand-assembled, stress-tested, and delivered with a documented build sheet. Plus repairs, upgrades, and diagnostics for the machines you already own.

  • Performance workstations & creative rigs
  • Gaming builds to spec & budget
  • Diagnostics, repair & component upgrades
  • Data recovery & migration
  • Thermal tuning & stability testing
  • Documented build sheets & warranty tracking

Parts itemized, no hidden markup · Built to your budget, not a catalogue tier

Genesis Super League

Problem

A new volleyball league needed a professional public site fast. Schedules, standings, registration, and payments already lived in SportNinja — rebuilding any of that would have added cost and risk for no benefit.

Approach

Right-sized it: a static, no-database site that embeds SportNinja's widget. Reverse-engineered the widget's undocumented constraints and documented each workaround. Every date, link, and contact renders from one config file so the league can update content with a one-line edit.

Outcome

Live at kelownasuperleague.com on a Hostinger VPS — Ubuntu, nginx, auto-renewing HTTPS, firewall — with a written handoff covering deploys, DNS, and troubleshooting. The client can run the site without us.

Secure file platform for a video production company

Problem

A production company needed contract editors — outside the company — to pull large source video and return finished cuts, without exposing anything else on the company's storage and without handing editors a free personal cloud.

Approach

Built it on a Synology NAS: a dedicated share and group with least-privilege permissions, individual accounts, storage quotas, and a hardened DSM — auto-block, deny-by-default firewall, MFA for admins, and only the required services exposed.

Outcome

Editors get a branded login and a two-page onboarding guide; the company gets full-speed direct transfers and an audit-friendly setup. Delivered with a handoff document so it can be maintained without a phone call.

03  /  Studio

Founder-led. Nothing outsourced.

MDB Development is founder-run. Our background is a Computer Information Systems degree from Okanagan College and enterprise IT on Interior Health's Digital Health team — directory services, virtual desktops, print infrastructure, and PowerShell automation across a large public health network.

That background is the point. Most small studios can build a website; fewer can also stand up the network it runs on, harden the server, and spec the workstation you'll edit it from. When you hire MDB, the person scoping the job is the person doing it — and the person answering when something breaks.

Talk to us
  • We run what we sell

Our own stack is the demo.

The studio operates on infrastructure we built: a UniFi network with VLAN segmentation, a 60 TB RAID 6 Synology array, a Linux application server, WireGuard VPN, and self-hosted apps behind a zero-inbound-port Cloudflare Tunnel.

  • Handoff is a deliverable

Every job ends with a document.

Deploy steps, DNS, credentials procedure, troubleshooting — written so a client (or the next vendor) can maintain the work without us. We'd rather be hired back for new work than held hostage by old work.

  • Right-sized engineering

The simplest thing that will hold.

A sports league got a static site because that's what the problem needed. A hardware client gets a build sheet, not a sales pitch. We scope to the problem, not to the biggest invoice.

  • Kelowna, in person

    Local when it matters.

On-site for network installs, hardware pickups, and the conversations that go better across a table. Remote for everything else — clients across Canada.

04  /  Process

Structured from the first call. Documented to the last.

  1. Step 01

    Discovery

A 30-minute call. We map what you have, what's costing you time, and what "done" looks like — in plain language, no jargon.

  2. Step 02

    Written scope & quote

A line-itemed quote with hours, rates, and monthly costs stated up front. We iterate on it with you — one client's scope went through five versions before it was right.

  3. Step 03

    Build

Design, engineering, configuration, testing. Regular check-ins with something real to look at, and a staging environment before anything touches production.

  4. Step 04

    Handoff & support

Deploy, document, train. Then stay on as monthly support if you want us — or take the handoff doc and run it yourself. Both are fine.

05  /  Pricing

Less than the other guys.

Agencies bill for account managers and office space. Managed-IT providers lock you into retainers. Big-box shops mark up the parts. We don't carry any of that — so the quote is lower, and it's the real number.

  • No agency overhead

One person scopes, builds, and supports the work. You aren't paying for the layers between you and the person doing it.

  • No contracts you don't use

Pay for the work that gets done. Ongoing support is available month to month — never a multi-year retainer.

  • No hidden markup

Hardware and hosting are itemized at what they cost. Hourly work is estimated up front and invoiced on actual time logged.

  • Quoted in writing, free

A line-itemed quote before anything starts — and if we're not the cheaper option for your situation, we'll tell you.

Stop juggling vendors.
Start with one call.

Thirty minutes, no sales script. Tell us what you're trying to run and we'll tell you what it would take — and whether we're the right fit.
